Duck Hollow or BRING IT ON SANDY!!!

As most of you probably know, those of us in the east are currently getting bombarded with the full furry of hurricane Sandy. However, this hurricane does have its benefits, one, no school today, and two, one of the biggest pelagic bird fallouts in PA ever.
This morning, I was able to go to duck hollow, a locally known birding spot where waterfowl usually occur in decent numbers. There had been a brant reported there yesterday so I was excited to see what I could find. We pulled into the parking lot to find a raft of four common mergansers. This is quite a good bird at this location and I was happy to see them (even though I had known they were there from the email listserv).
